The community at Madurai was founded in the year 1969 and has organized itself in to a branch society of St. Charles Society namely ‘St. Charles Society – Madurai’ in the year 1990. The society runs a Primary School for boys and girls, a Higher Secondary School for girls and a Matriculation Schools for boys and girls. Hostel facility is provided to the students and staff coming from distant places. A charitable home for the aged destitute is also managed by the society. In this home there are forty senior citizens given shelter, food, medical and spiritual care. A health centre for the inmates of the institutions and the local patients is also available. St. Charles college of Education is an Institution of the Society of St. Charles, Madurai belonging to the congregation of the Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo.

“Imparting Christian education through all our ministries” being the part of the charisma of the congregation, this institution intended especially for educating the educators to acquire academic excellence insists on the importance of inculcating spiritual values – faith in God, in others and in one self and to practice the virtues such as compassionate love, prayer, silence, humility, sacrifice, forgiveness, etc, and to create a spiritual atmosphere in the college Campus. Principles of the respecting Human Rights, Justice and Equality are upheld. Appreciating the creation and acknowledging the Fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man are highly valued.
